Ryder’s story

For Ryder, finding the right school wasn’t easy. After years of struggling to fit in with mainstream schooling, Ryder’s journey to self-acceptance felt challenging and uncertain. The education system didn’t seem to understand their unique needs, leaving Ryder feeling disconnected and unsupported. That all changed when they joined Alesco, where they found not only a place to learn, but a place to thrive.

Overcoming challenges to achieve HSC success

Ryder’s mum, Juanita Baker said that Alesco has made a world of difference for their family.

We spent years trying to find a school that truly understood Ryder’s needs. Mainstream education just didn’t work for them. But at Alesco, Ryder found more than just a school – they found patience, understanding, and a community that supports them for who they truly are.”

At Alesco, Ryder has been able to focus on their studies in a way that felt right for them. What once felt like a hopeless journey, filled with uncertainty and frustration, has turned into one of progress, pride, and newfound confidence. Ryder is now on track to complete their HSC, a milestone they never thought would be possible.

I often think, I wish Alesco was around when I was at school. There truly needs to be more schools like this, where every student is seen, supported, and given the chance to thrive. The difference Alesco has made in Ryder’s life and in our family is incredible. It’s not just about education – it’s about giving Ryder the opportunity to be themselves and succeed on their own terms.” Juanita (mum)

The college offers a flexible learning approach, allowing students to achieve their HSC through a more tailored education experience that fits their needs.

Through their time at Alesco, Ryder has not only excelled academically but also discovered a renewed sense of belonging and purpose. Alesco’s personalised approach has given Ryder the tools and support needed to achieve what once felt out of reach, while also fostering a sense of confidence and pride in their abilities.

Ryder’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and the lasting impact of a supportive educational environment.

At Alesco, every student is seen as an individual with their own unique strengths, and they are given the chance to succeed on their terms.
